What is the financial consultant’s equivalent of making 100,000 shots?
This video stayed with me because it captures something I think about often: mastery is rarely the result of one breakthrough. It is built through thousands of deliberate repetitions—practising, reviewing and refining the small details that most people never see.
I have been in financial advisory for 10 years, but I don’t feel as though I have “arrived.”
If anything, experience has made me more aware of how much more there is to learn.
How can I ask better questions?
How can I listen more deeply?
How can I explain complex ideas more simply?
How can I help someone make a decision with greater clarity and confidence?
How can I become better for the next person who places their trust in me?
Perhaps my version of 100,000 shots is found in every client conversation, every plan reviewed, every difficult question studied and every meeting reflected upon afterwards.
Not merely repeating the work—but doing it with intention, noticing what could have been better, and returning the next day determined to improve it.
Ten years in, I remain committed to the craft.
Not because I believe excellence is a destination I will eventually reach, but because the pursuit itself is part of the responsibility.
The question this video left me with is:
What are the “100,000 shots” in your own profession—and are you practising them deliberately?
